The water slide is a Build mode object which was introduced in The Sims: Vacation, and re-introduced in The Sims 2: Seasons. It must be placed along the edge of a swimming pool to be useful. Unlike the diving board, Sims have no fears or reservations about using the water slide to enter the pool.
The trailer for The Sims 3: Generations shows a slide, but it is not clear from the trailer if Sims will be able to use it to enter a pool. There will be a water toy which resembles a Slip 'n Slide, and which is generally referred to as a water slide.
