Even though Allegra may not be beautiful, she is said to be a "bleeding heart romantic, but you wouldn't get that from looking at her." She wants to go to college to have fun and earn good grades, but one feature of campus life she doesn't care for is the Tri-Var Sorority Household, which she dislikes "on principle".
Allegra is selfless and kind, and shows it by thanking people and helping people. Even though she may be nice, she really dislikes Brittany Upsnott, whom she thinks is mean and arrogant.
Her name may be a pun on Al Gore, as she is Allegra Gorey. Her last name may also be a reference to the writer and illustrator Edward Gorey. "Allegro" is a musical direction calling for a brisk, lively tempo, and means "cheerful" in Italian. "Allegra" is the feminine form.
