Blueprint Mode is a tool introduced in patch 42 of The Sims 3. It allows players to lay down a series of premade rooms to form a floor plan, which can then be realized into a complete, fully-featured house. Blueprints can be previewed without saving them, allowing players to plan out the design of their lot.

With Seasons installed, players are given the "Cabin" blueprint style to use. Additionally, patch 55 adds pool blueprints for players to place.

Functionality
Rooms can be placed on any flat, empty terrain, or over empty floor tiles. They can also be placed over columns, unless it contains a swimming pool or fountain. Once a room has been finalized, it can no longer be moved around or rotated as a whole, and will function like a regular room. The rooms in the blueprint catalog can be filtered by custom content, store items, or by content pack.

Rooms that are placed next to each other with an overlapping shared wall will be adjoined. Doors and windows located on these walls will be kept, unless it conflicts with a wall object (such as a painting or toilet). If a door and a window conflict, the door will override the window. Objects that lose to another conflicting object will be sold or moved to the family inventory.

The eyedropper and Create a Style tools, as well as item catalog categories in buy and build modes, are disabled when blueprint mode is enabled.
