Callboxes are found in the lobbies of all penthouses in The Sims 3: Late Night. Visitors to the lot will stop by the callbox and buzz the household living there, asking for permission to enter. The residents of the household may choose to accept the visitor, greet them in person, or simply ignore the request. Visitors cannot use the elevators or access the unit the residents live in until they have been buzzed in using the callbox.
Although callboxes were designed specifically for penthouses, they can be placed on regular residential and community lots, although they do not serve any functional purpose in those cases.
