Computers are objects in The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. In the first two games, all the computers are desktops, but in the sims 3, there is the first laptop.

Functions in The Sims

In The Sims, the computer will list three job openings each day.

In The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, the computer lists five job openings each day, and jobs found on the computer are often better than the ones in the newspaper.

• Playing games

• Moving one or more family members into the Family Bin so they can get their own place.
• Sending and checking email.
• Chatting online. Sims may do this autonomously if their social meter is low enough. If the Sims have a good enough relationship, the player may be given the option to invite the other Sim over.

When the "Chat with..." menu shows which Sims are online, only their first names are shown. Since The Sims 2 tends to reuse names, it's not always possible to be certain which Sim is being selected.
