Family relationships are defined by marriage/joining and birth. In the The Sims, you have to be in the game to marry someone off and have babies and there isn't a family tree. In The Sims 2, these links can be defined in Create-A-Sim and viewed from the Family tree. When in Create-A-Sim , you can also link two persons of the opposite gender, making them married by moving one adult person picture on to the other adult's picture. When a baby is born, it would have his/her parents' genetics
Families can also be defined by household but do not have an impact on Social Interactions.
Family Interactions
In The Sims 2, Sims have Interactions that can only be performed with family members.
- Encourage: Using this interaction, a Sim can encourage a younger Sim's behavior and change their Personality
