Kayla O'Ryan was the younger sister of Annette O'Ryan and the daughter Felix and Maggie. She was an almost typical popular girl except for the fact she is not mean or shallow like her friends and doesn't just date Jocks. She is engaged to Alistair Space who is not the most handsome but he is kind and she loved him and later got engaged to him.
As a baby, Kayla didn't do much. Her parents were amazed at how little she cried or whined but they later found out it was because she had an illness which affected Babies which made it painful to cry or make any noise. They said it was easily treatable and she would not get affected in later life. However Felix and Maggie were worried especially when Kayla grew up into a toddler and still didn't speak. Luckily as a child, Kayla began talking. She had known how to all along but just hadn't wanted to. She made up for the years she didn't speak by talking EVER SO MUCH which her parents were a little annoyed about. Kayla had lots of friends at school and good grades so she liked school a lot.
As a teen, Kayla's sister moved to college which was good as Annette was moody and sulky. Also she got Annette's old bedroom which was bigger and had a nicer view. Kayla was similar in looks to her friends but unlike her jock-exclusive friends, she dated Jason Hugh was considered a bit nerdy. In the end he dumped her for a girl he met at Chess club who apparently was 'the mother of his future kids'. Kayla was upset and her friends thought she was faking the poor little me act for attention but she was genuinely sad about the breakup. She then dated Marcus Fry, a boy in the basketball team as her friends had convinced her to date a jock but she found him dull and shallow and broke up with him. She then met Alistair and they began dating. She liked Alistair a lot and they had common interests and he made her laugh. She didn't like his sister though as she was constantly getting Alistair to do what she wanted but Kayla didn't want to interfere. She and Alistair then moved to college together.
As a young adult, Kayla and Alistair both chose Drama major. She noticed Imogen was dating Klaus Du Thein and told Alistair to watch out as her sister Annette had told her he was mean to people especially gullible girls like Imogen. Alistair thanked her but said he wouldn't interfere. Kayla was a little curious about something, would Alistair propose to her? He didn't seem to want to so Kayla took a leap of faith and asked him herself. He said yes happily and Kayla began planning their future with the help of her new best friend Heather. Kayla was a little surprised when Imogen came to stay and she suggested that Alistair go and find out what was wrong by taking Imogen out to dinner. While he was out, she decided to make him a baked Alaska as she figured he would be tired out. Sadly, while Kayla was waiting for the Baked Alaska to cook she fell asleep. The baked Alaska set the house on fire and Kayla never even woke up. The fire went out on its own but not before it had claimed her life and destroyed the house in the process.
After her death, Alistair visited her grave whenever he could. Kayla never returned as a ghost as it was too painful for her to be back on the earth when she knew she could never return. She hated being dead and robbed of her future but there was nothing she could do.
