- Nirvana is a state of perfect happiness; an ideal or idyllic place. This refers to the 1970's Paradise Resort the Doctor and Charles find.

- The Master does not appear in this episode. This is the first episode he has not appeared in since he became in regular in "Nemesis".
- This is the first episode Katarina has appeared in since "Nemesis".
- This episode was originally titled "1976".
- This episode is the fourth-one in a row to have no guest stars at all.
- This is the first episode not to be set in present day Earth.
- This episode begins with a recap to the events when Katarina was turned into a zombie ("Nemesis") and when the TARDIS crashed ("Siege"). This is the first episode to have a recap to a previous serial.
Continuity
- Katarina's fate in the crashed TARDIS that occurred in "Siege" is finally revealed.
- The Motorcycle that the Doctor stole in "Hostage" can be seen in the entertainment room.
Mistakes
