Food in the sims 1 was, in a word, dull. There were only three options: have breakfast, have lunch, and have dinner - and only two types of meal, both resembling a salad.

Later Expansion Packs provided more food for Sims to eat, including a birthday cake, cookies, turkey, smoothies, ice cream, and shrimp to name a few. But the most significant upgrade was that of Makin' Magic, which provided an oven which allows Sims to cook more types of food, as long as the required ingredients in the Sim's inventory.

Several sites will offer downloads for the sims 2 for different food. That is - food with a different appearance and name. Until recently modded food would not change its appearance as it was eaten, now however, food can change its appearance and even plates on which it is prepared can be changed. One example of such a site is modthesims2
