According to wikipedia: 'Food is any substance, usually composed primarily of carbohydrates, fats, water and/or proteins, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal or human being for nutrition or pleasure.'

For the sims it's a lot easier. No food = no life.

Food in the sims 1

Food in the sims 1 was, in a word, dull. There were only three options: have breakfast, have lunch, and have dinner - and only two types of meal, both resembling a salad.

Making magic food

With making magic came the introduction of garden food, and thus, special dishes could be made such as bread and cakes - sometimes with magical properties.

Food in the sims 2

Food in the sims 2 is a lot more complicated, with more variety and therefore different visual and preparation aspects.

Modded food

Several sites will offer downloads for the sims 2 for different food. That is - food with a different appearance and name. Until recently modded food would not change its appearance as it was eaten, now however, food can change its appearance and even plates on which it is prepared can be changed.
