I just installed The Sims 2: Pets. I was playing one of my families when a Child rolled a Want to Obtain a Pet, so I had him befriend a stray dog. When I clicked on the dog, there was no adopt option, so I figured it was because of my Sim's age and had his mom (an Adult) make friends with the dog, too. Still, there's no option to adopt the dog. Children and under can't adopt. You have to get Teen and up to adopt. To adopt, make sure you have a good relationship with the dog and the option should appear when interacting with the dog. Hope this helps! Archie 01:44, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I tried to get his mom to adopt the dog, but I haven't had any luck. Does she have to be Best Friends instead of just Pet Friends with the dog? Sparrowsong 01:46, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

(This is for the sims 3) First, enable the Testingcheatsenabled cheat (if you want to use cheats) and shift-click on the stray. An option will come up saying 'Add to Active Family/Household'. Press this and the Stray Pet will be added to the household. To name it, shift-click on it again and press 'Edit Sim in Create a Sim'. This will take you to create a sim. You can change the name of the stray here. After changing the name, click on the tick button at the bottom of the screen. You have adopted a stray! (P.S. if you have never used testingcheatsenabled before, I strongly advise you look on the sims wiki page for testingcheatsenabled. Also, some of the options.
