As you may have noticed, Fandom (Powered by Wikia) have yet again forced through a controversial change with little advance warning that strips rights and powers away from local communities. Surprise!

But, in all seriousness, Fandom has pushed out a new navigation header for The Sims Wiki and other wikis. Unlike the old navigation header, the new header has only limited customizability on the local level. Specifically, we're allowed to change the header image and the background color, and that's it. The color that was set in place when the header launched clashed horribly with our wordmark, so I changed the background color to white for the time being. My question is, do we want to set the background color to something else, or change the header image? Because that's literally all we're allowed to do.

In closing, Fandom sucks. -- LiR talk · blog · contribs 16:55, June 13, 2017 (UTC)

Leave Wikia[edit source]

Instead of focusing on changing the navbar because of Wikia's unwarranted changes, why not focus the time and effort on leaving Wikia entirely and organising for the community to leave with the wiki? It would result in a solution that makes the wiki so much better and you will have more freedom to do what you want with The Sims Wiki. --116.124.73.163 (talk) 17:33, June 13, 2017 (UTC)

For the reasons mentioned here and here, that's not a realistic solution. -- LiR talk · blog · contribs 17:46, June 13, 2017 (UTC)
Well I was fully aware of these changes that were going to take place due to my invitation to the Community Council team in April, but even I was unsure exactly what these changes would look like until they happened, since I've always been the "cross that bridge when you come to it" sort of person in terms of technical updates, unless I'm absolutely sure what affect those changes will have and how to resolve them.
I certainly won't be leaving Wikia anytime soon since there are certain qualities that Wikia has that many other sites lack and even if they did I probably wouldn't enjoy them the same way or get the same level of enjoyment out of them. I know that this is just one wiki, and not the Wikia network, but still, I definitely have no plans to be moving to a different site just for one wiki.
Don't get me wrong, I could still do it, but I don't really see the point. The bottom line is I think that moving to a different site entirely would be unnecessary and doing so would be extremely detrimental to readers and editors alike. I know I'm probably sounding like this person that's trying to remain optimistic about my Wikia experience, but still, the consequences for leaving it is just too much.
I was thinking of perhaps choosing a colour for the header of this wiki that matches the overall colour of the header prior to the technical update. So I think possibly something green, like the edit page header. I may have some other ideas, but I'd probably want to hear other suggestions first. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 01:41, June 14, 2017 (UTC)
I just temporarily changed the header to light blue to match the colour of the light blue header when editing a JavaScript page. I knew the change would probably be controversial, so I undid the change immediately after I made it. I just wanted to see for myself whether it was any better than the header being white. Personally I think it blends in better, but other than that I don't really know whether it would fit better as a potential replacement, since light blue doesn't really fit in very well with the rest of the wiki's colour scheme. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 05:56, July 7, 2017 (UTC)
