I've just started to build a family tree online for my neighborhood (after 5 generations, everyone was related and paper family trees just weren't cutting it anymore). I know some people manage to get a thumbnail of their sims onto the family tree - the kind of thumbnail that appears in memories, or game-generated family trees. Where do I find these so I can upload them to my family tree?

This is for sims 2, and I have download Simpe if that can be used at all.

All character files should have an image to go along with them. I haven't used SimPE in a while so I can't remember correctly, but to get to a character file, open up the neighborhood, look into Sim Descriptions, find the Sim you want, click on them, and then click on the "More" button. There should be a button called "Open Character File ####_random numbers here". Click on that, and in that character file there should be a JPG image or something. You can extract that and resize it and crop out the unnecessary spaces using a program like Paint.NET. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 10:54, April 23, 2014 (UTC)
Or, if you don't have SimsPE there is another way to do it. In your game, click on the family tree to see it. Press Prt Sc, then minimise your game. Click on a graphics program, like paint or photoshop or whatever you have. Click on edit then 'paste.' You will have a screen cap of your tree. Crop it to size. Cut/paste or whatever, to arrange the icons to suit how you want. You may have to do this a few times, to get all of the sim icons the same size. It is very time consuming, but very useful for people who don't have SimPE. WayfinderOwl (talk) 11:22, April 23, 2014 (UTC)

That's actually really helpful, thanks :) However, I do appear to be stuck on one thing... I'm not entirely used to Simpe yet. I followed your directions, found the image, and can export it fine, but I can't get back to Sim Browser afterwards. I try opening up Sim Browser directly, but it says that action is not appropiate, and I can't find a "back" buttion. I've done one or two pictures this way, but so far I'm closing the neighborhood and reloading it for every single sim picture. The neighborhood load is quite slow - Idk if that's because Simpe is slow or because I have a large neighborhood. Is there a faster way of doing this? A hidden back button somewhere? Aaaand (as it turns out) a follow up.... Some of my sims dont seem to have portraits. I think it's the vampires and werewolves, the ones who change thumbnail more often but I'm not certain. How do I fix it so they do have portraits, so I can download them, etc, etc? This is way more fuss than I thought :P Sims2addict9312 (talk) 21:54, April 23, 2014 (UTC)
