▲The Get a Life mode is a gameplay mode available in the console version of The Sims. The mode is a goal based mode in which various objectives must be accomplished to reach new areas, which unlock various items in the Buy area of the free play mode.
In this mode, you play one Sim (whom you create), and move through various missions and houses. Your Sim will live with other characters during this time. While you can control these other characters, some of them don't do skill-boosting activities, and they rarely clean or cook.

A dialogue from Mom will pop up, saying "WAKE UP! WAKE UP! Are you going to daydream all day long?"
She will then immediately try to turn on the TV, breaking it.
This is the first official level, meaning the player sim must complete a list of goals in order to move on to the next location. Goals are listed in the start/pause menu.

* She gives only §100 each time, so you must ask 8 times.

* The sim must earn a cooking skill point from reading a book in order to not cause a fire.
REWARD: Aromaster Whifferpuff Gold
* If the sim does not have at least one mechanical skill point, they will be electrocuted when they attempt to fix the TV.
REWARD: CharisMaster Vanity Mirror
▲Money from Mom begins after the player's character wakes up from his or her daydream. The Sim is actually living in their mom's house and wants to move out.
* Simply use the newspaper to look for a job. The paper can be found outside, near the mailbox.
REWARD: PerspirAction Executive Treadmill

* This goal is only applicable if bills are delivered, which happens every 3 sim days.
Finish the level fast
▲* Borrow §800 from Mom.
* Complete all the goals listed in under 24 sim hours.
▲* Make a dinner without starting a fire.
▲* Fix the television.
▲* Get a job.

Once all the goals have been completed, Mom will say "You're finally moving out! I did one last favor for my little baby! Go to Mr. Landgrabb's house up the street and give him the rental deposit I lent you! He's got a place that's just PERFECT for you!" BUT if you manage to sold an item to complete the borrow money mission, your mom will be angry and your sims have to pay the interest to her.

The Sim has moved to a new house for the time being. Nobody's living with them. The thing is, the house is a mess. Everything's broken, there is trash everywhere, and the toilet's clogged.
A new character, either Mimi (if the character is female) or Dudley (if the character is male), will come over and say that the character can stay in the house for free if they clean the house and fix all the stuff.
While living here, the Sim will encounter two neighbors: Pierre and Pauline Peacock.
