Lightning is present in heavy thunderstorms that commonly occur in spring, summer and occasionally autumn. As in ''The Sims 2: Seasons'', lightning can kill a Sim, however it is extremely rare and will require a Sim to either be struck twice or to be singed. Death by lightning in The Sims 3 is treated as death by electrocution.

Lightning is a returning weather phase in ''The Sims 4: Seasons''. Sims that get struck by lightning will receive a moodlet; if they are struck again before the moodlet expires, they will either die or gain special superpowers that enable them to summon lightning to a location of their choosing. They can also strike other Sims with lightning. However, the struck Sim will not be affected. SimsLightning willcan attemptalso tostrike runthe insideground, whenwhere outside during a thunderstorm. While outside, theyit will receive aaffect tenseplumbing moodletand "What am I doing out here?!" Even when inside, they still receive a weaker tense moodlet. If lightning strikes on your land,cause plumbing will spark with electricity, making them possibly dangerousobjects to use during a thunderstormspark.
