A house fire in The Sims, with a Live PIP showing the fire

A Live Picture in Picture, also known as a Live PIP, is a notification in The Sims and The Sims 2 that appears during certain events. A Live PIP is a small box, usually to the bottom right of the screen, with a live camera witnessing the event.

It can be closed by clicking on its X button. Clicking on the capturing screen will transport the game camera to that event, subsequently closing down the PIP window and to initial camera location by clicking again. Right clicking will swiftly shift to the camera instead of doing instantaneously. By clicking on and dragging the top edge of the box allows for movement and reposition of the window on the screen.

A Live PIP shows the player what's going on in the event of a fire, a burglary, and a repo-man visit, among other things. These also include when:

  • Someone gets fit or fat.[TS2]
  • Somebody ages.[TS2]
  • Somebody rings a doorbell.
  • When an NPC arrives or leaves.(might be only for specific ones)[confirmation needed]
  • Household member starts stomping on cockroaches.
