The Lots and Houses bin is where pre-made, custom and empty lots are stored to be placed in the neighborhood. In The Sims 2, the lots and houses bin is available from neighborhood view, and selecting it will allow unoccupied residential lots and unowned community lots to be edited. In The Sims 3, the player must enter "Edit Town" mode. In The Sims 4, lots and houses can be found in the "My Library" section of the Gallery.

There are many premade houses and buildings from the The Sims 2, The Sims 3, The Sims 4, and their expansions which can be placed in the neighborhood. They are named only by their style (ex. Craftsman, Victorian, etc.). The names of premade residential lots also include the number of bedrooms and bathrooms they have.

The Sims 2: Nightlife comes with small townhouses with driveways. In The Sims 2: Open for Business, there are premade shops available: a mini mall, a bookstore, and a cafe. In The Sims 2: Pets, there are a couple of premade pet shops and a pet-oriented park. In The Sims 2: Bon Voyage, there are a few vacation lots and a new lot type, beaches. In The Sims 2: FreeTime, there are new houses and community lots in the themes of recreation, sports and daycare/nursery. The Sims 2: Apartment Life comes with new apartments. Stuff packs often provided new, premade lots decorated with objects and architecture made available with the stuff pack. The only stuff packs that didn't come with any lots are The Sims 2: Holiday Party Pack, The Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff, The Sims 2: Glamour Life Stuff, and The Sims 2: Happy Holiday Stuff. Stuff packs, starting from The Sims 2: Celebration! Stuff, all come with premade lots.

The Sims 2 lots and houses bin allows players to place both inhabited and uninhabited lots in the bin. However, placing inhabited lots in the bin is not advised. Players should not attempt to do this unless the inhabited lot is a new lot with a new family that has no connections to Sims or pets outside the house. If any Sim or pet in the family has any connections to Sims or pets outside the house, placing it in the lot bin and then placing it in another neighborhood will severely damage the neighborhood because the game will try to duplicate every Sim the inhabitants know. See Game guide:Avoiding corruption for more details.

In The Sims 3, the Lots and houses bin is a part of the library, available in Edit Town mode. It comes with 15 empty premade houses and a community lot park that can be placed in any world. Additional houses and venues can be added by going to a world and saving a copy of any lot to the library. Empty lots cannot be saved to the library. Lots from the bin must be placed on an empty lot that is either the same size or larger. A copy of the lot is created when moving lots to and from the bin so that existing lots are unaffected.

All expansion packs except World Adventures and University Life added new lots to the bin. From stuff packs, only Town Life Stuff and Katy Perry's Sweet Treats added new lots to the bin.

In The Sims 4, the lots and houses bin is replaced with the Gallery, but both features serve the same basic function. Some lots and houses are added directly to the player's library while others can be found on Maxis' official profile on the Gallery.
