The Newbie Family was used in the in-game tutorial with The Sims. The tutorial home, which you were allowed to continue to play after the tutorial was complete, included Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie.

Bob and Betty do not appear as playable sims within a neighbourhood in The Sims 2, but you can play through a tutorial with them and they are still a part of the sims universe. As former residents of Pleasantview, the now-deceased Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie appear in the family tree view of playable sims Brandi Broke and her sons, teen Dustin Broke and toddler Beau Broke. Brandi is their daughter, who married deceased sim Skip Broke.
