Obedience is a pet skill that was added in Unleashed. You can train pets in obedience by using the Sit & Stay option. Also, pets gain a very small amount of obedience when you call them over. When a pet has at least three points in obedience, you will usually see a Stop option when you click on a pet that's doing something. Dogs with at least three points in obedience can be ordered to attack other Sims on the lot.

In The Sims 2: Pets, Sims can call the Obedience Trainer NPC to teach your pets behaviors.
