Pet Traits are included in The Sims 3: Pets. They work like Sim traits, by defining a pet's personality and fitting the pet's reactions to it. While some pet traits are available for all pets, some are only available for horses, some are only available for cats and dogs, and some are only available for dogs. After picking three traits for your pet, you can train behaviors so they develop a "trained" trait with a green box around the new trait.

Adventurous

Adventurous pets are very curious and love to explore.

• Pet will be very curious about the world.
• Pet will rarely Hide under furniture.
• Pet will gain Fun for Exploring Under furniture
• Conflicts with: Anxious

Aggressive

Aggressive pets aren't inherently mean, they usually just have a bad attitude when interacting with pets. A bad attitude that usually leads to fights, that is...

• Pet will always catch burglars that come onto your lot.
• Pet will be more likely chase the mailman.
• Conflicts with: Friendly

Agile

Agile horses are nimble, strong and love to jump. They make awesome Show Jumping competitors but get bored if they don't stay active.

• Horse will learn Jumping Skill considerably faster.
• Horse gets a slight score bonus on Jumping and Cross-Country competitions.
• Exercise motive drops at a slightly increased rate.
• Conflicts with: Hates Jumping

Brave

Brave horses have an extra helping of courage to help them deal with the chaos of sprinklers, fireworks, burglar alarms and other terror-inducing everyday objects.

• Horse will be less likely to be Startled.
• Spooked! and Panicked! moodlets will have shorter durations for the horse.
• Horse gets along better with other Brave Sims.
• Conflicts with: Nervous

Clueless

Clueless pets tend to forget what they're doing and are easily distracted. They don't learn skills and traits too quickly, but they do get along well with Absent-Minded Sims.

• Pet will sometimes forget what they are about to do.
• Pet get along well with other Absent-Minded and Easily Impressed Sims as well as other Clueless Pets.

Destructive

Whether destroying furniture or digging holes in the yard, Destructive Pets are sure to cause chaos wherever they are!

• Pet will choose destructive acts, like digging holes or knocking over trash cans, more often.
• Pet will prefer to scratch and chew on furniture.
• Conflicts with: Non-destructive

Fast

Fast horses are the speed demons of the animal kingdom. They love to gallop and have a natural talent for racing, but they need plenty of exercise to stay satisfied.

• Horse gets a slight score bonus on Racing and Cross-Country competitions.
• Exercise motive drops at a slightly increased rate.
• Conflicts with: Lazy

Friendly

Pets with the Friendly trait not only get along better with other pets, but they'll usually have better relationships with their Sims as well.

• Pet will increase their relationships with Sims faster.
• Pet will increase their relationships with other Pets faster.
• Pet will try to hang out closer to Sims with whom they have a positive relationship.
• Conflicts with: Aggressive

Genius

Genius pets always thinking on their paws (or hooves). They learn skills and new traits quickly and get along well with other Genius pets and Sims.

• Pet gains a larger boost when being praised or scolded.
• Pet gets along better with other Genius Sims or Pets.

Hates Jumping

Some horses prefer to keep their hooves on the ground. When a horse hates jumping, it will refuse to jump more often and do worse at Show Jumping and Cross-Country competitions. It may even take its anger out on your shiny new jump training obstacles!

• Horse gets a slight score penalty on Jumping and Cross-Country competitions.
• Exercise motive drops at a slightly decreased rate.
• Conflicts with: Agile

Hydrophobic

Hydrophobic dogs have a natural aversion for anything that relates to water. When in the water, they are definitely not happy.

• Dog will get the Hydrophobic moodlet when forced to swim.
• Dog will never autonomously choose to swim in pools.
• Dog will resist being forced to swim in pools.
• Conflicts with: Likes Swimming

Hunter

Pets with the Hunter trait are excellent at stalking and catching prey.

• Pet will gain Hunting Skill more quickly.
• Pet will autonomously hunt things more often.

Hyper

Hyper pets are super active and never like staying in one place. They are able to build energy much more quickly and have a slower energy decay.

• Pet will likely want to run around more.
• Interactions that build energy do so more quickly.
• Energy motive drops at a slightly decreased rate.
• Conflicts with: Lazy

Independent

Independent pets not only prefer to be on their own, but have more fun when playing on their own rather than in big groups or other social situations.

• Pet's social motive will decay at a slower rate.
• Pet will autonomously socialize with other pets less often.
• Pet is more likely to run away.
• Pet will build Fun at a higher rate when doing solo interactions.

Lazy

Lazy pets just love to lie down or stay in one place as they get tired easely.

• Pet will get Fatigued more quickly.
• Energy motive drops at a slightly increased rate.
• Conflicts with: Hyper, Fast

Likes Swimming

Contrary to popular belief, not all breeds of dogs like to swim. However, when given this trait, dogs just can't get enough satisfaction from taking a dip!

• Dog will want to go swimming much more than other dogs.
• Conflicts with: Hydrophobic

Trivia

• Since Horses are not featured on The Sims 3: Pets (Console), all pet trait that are exclusive for horses will not be available on The Sims 3: Pets (Console).
• Pets created in CAS have 3 traits, If player buy Attitude Adjustment Lifetime reward they can add 2 more trait so total that pet will have 5 trait.
• Pets can have more than 5 trait when trained.
• If a pet with more than 5 traits moves to another city, they will lose all trained traits. Only the first 5 traits on the pet bio list will remain.
