Prom is a feature present in The Sims 3: Generations for teens. A notice pops up a few days before the actual prom so that the player can plan a date and/or plan an outfit. The player can ask a Sim to go to the Prom, a sim will ask them or they can go alone.

During the day of the prom, a notification will pop up notifying you that the dance will be starting at 6 PM and you should begin getting ready. If the Sim does not have a date, the Sim may get a phone call from another teen asking the other to the prom, depending on the relationships of the Sim. Around 5 PM, a limo parks in front of the lot awaiting the Sim to attend the prom.

Prom participants may be nominated as prom queen/king depending on how many friends the teen has. To inform you of your progress towards this goal, through the night the player will receive several notifications about what's happening; such as, "[name of player's Sim] is tearing up the dance floor", "[name of player's Sim] was talking to her friends and [another sim] creeped up behind her and snuck in their first kiss!" or, "...hitting it off with [another sim]". The prom can also involve bad results; such as the Sim getting into a fight, being stood up or being rejected by a crush for a dance.

Prom may also cause changes in relationships. If a Sim is going with another who is above friend level with, and they have been flirting, there might pop up a message asking whether the Sim wants to go steady with him/her.

Once the prom has ended, the player will get two notifications. One informs the player that the school dance has ended and that the Sim should get home before the Sim's curfew begins. The other informs that the prom picture is in the Sim's personal inventory.

The sim may get a positive moodlet with +50 if he/she had a good time. If they did poorly, it will be -50.

Sims enrolled in boarding school can also attend a prom. They will be sent home automatically in almost 2 hours before the prom starts. In the morning after attending the prom, they should be picked up again by the previous Limo to continue their study in boarding school.

Trivia

• The music that plays inside the prom is The Royal Academy Dance from MySims Kingdom.
• One of the excuse if a Sim rejects as a prom date is that they thought they might be abducted by aliens. This excuse can be given by anyone, though it will suit Bella Goth's disappearance as well in The Sims 2.
