You must therefore register with NickServ before you can join the channel. When you connect, pick a nickname you want to use (if the nickname is already registered, NickServ will tell you that, and you will need to pick a different nickname - type <code>/nick YOUR NEW NICKNAME HERE</code> - e.g. <code>/nick foo</code>).
