==About the switch==
Over the summer of 2010, [http://www.wikia.com Wikia] began discussing "the future of Wikia," indicating the likelihood that Monaco - the current design of most wikis on the network - was going to be dropped, in exchange for a new design and layout. In late summer, the first plans of "Oasis" (otherwise referred to as the New Skin) were revealed and the first version of Oasis went into closed beta testing. At the end of September, the timeline for moving out of Monaco [[w:c:community:User_blog:Sannse/Important_Updates_on_Wikia%E2%80%99s_New_Look|was announced]].

Public beta (open to all registered Wikia users) began on October 7, 2010; on November 3, 2010, the option to use Monaco will bewas removed for all users. Presently, there is no manner by which a user can switch out of Oasis to either Monaco or Monobook (another former Wikia skin, similar to the skin used by [[wikipedia:Wikipedia|Wikipedia]]) Wikia has offered assistance to wikis, users and administrators as countless wikis prepare to make the transition into Oasis.

===Details===
Line 14 ⟶ 11:
*Oasis removes the left-side menus and navigation, in exchange for a smaller drop-down navigation menu at the top and a new "sidebar" on the right.
*Oasis implements a number of changes meant to improve community participation in wikis, including tools that make it more apparent to new readers that wikis can be edited by anyone.

==Switching Skins==
During the public beta period (until November 3), it will be possible to switch back-and-forth between Oasis and Monaco.
