Stylists work in a salon, and there they can make over customers. Stylists have access to clothing and hair options that other Sims cannot easily access. The stylist career combines Create a Sim mode with live mode.

During a makeover, the client Sim appears in a "makeover room" that works just like CAS but only has options for hair, makeup, and clothing. The requirements for the job appear in the upper right, and they must all be fulfilled to ensure success. For example, a Sim who has just received a promotion might ask a stylist to help him "Dress for Success." The stylist then gets to choose an assortment of new clothes: 3 Everyday Outfits, 2 Formal, 1 Athletic, New Shoes, New Accessory, New Hairstyle. When complete, the client will decide whether hethey likes the new look or not, determining the stylist's success or failure. Through mods, a player can see that there is a Styling hidden skill, gained from styling (and probably a factor in determining success in a job, although the skill itself can be gained from changing the Sim's own looks).

Success results in higher pay, a relationship gain, and the opportunity to take a photo for the stylist's portfolio. Failure will result in a loss of relationship with the client and lower pay for the job. Sometimes, even if the requirements are fulfilled, the stylist will fail with the message, "[Stylist] did a good job, but maybe hertheir client is just too picky." Other times, the stylist will fail due to lack of Job Experience, no matter what style the player chooses. Stylists can also opt to intentionally "give bad makeover," resulting in messy or badly-dressed clients.

Stylists work 9 AM to 7 PM Tuesdays through Saturdays, but they don't have to stay in the salon the whole time. In fact, as they get better at their jobs, stylists will spend most of their time driving to clients' homes to perform makeovers. These jobs are tracked through the "Career" tab as well as a new mode in Map View that allows players to view "Jobs and Opportunities." Between working on jobs in the community, stylists can work from home with the Styling Stage (available in buy mode) or at the new salon community lot (which also houses the tattoo chair) and try to sell their services to the various Sims that wander in.

Friendly and charismaticCharismatic simsSims seem to have more success selling their services, but a high painting skill is essential for success. This skill can be acquired in the usual way with the easel, or Sims may use a new object, the Drafting Board, to study new fashions or architectural styles. Studying at the drafting board produces fashion or architecture sketches, which can be hung on the walls or sold like paintings. On occasion, you will be asked to create multiple outfits of the same category for the Sim, to add another outfit, click on the plus sign in makeover mode.

In addition to client fees, stylists are also paid a weekly stipend, which increases from §233 per week to over §800 by level 7. Commission per job ranges from §10 - §1500 and possibly more.

Players need the stylist's studio to work from home as a stylist. It can be found in buy mode under study/hobbies/abilities tab. The unlock outfits cheat allows access to the stylist -exclusive outfits.
