Unknown mother[edit source]

I don't see the problem with mentioning "Unknown mother" in the parents section. She may not be in the game but she is mentioned and he clearly needs a mother to exist. DarkSuicune2000 06:08, August 22, 2015 (UTC)

There are a vast number of Sims that have one or more unknown parents. Leaving off the name of a parent implies that the parentage is unknown, so it's not necessary to add it in. Not to mention, that kind of standard when applied wiki-wide would involve a lot of unnecessary work. - LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 06:13, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
As LiR says above, it's going to be tons of work. And he only has one parent in his family tree, his mother is only mentioned in story-telling, but in-game he only has one parent, so we have to keep it like the original. Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 06:15, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
I see "unknown mother and father" on wikis and other places all the time. If someone adds "Unknown" Then the work has been done and it makes even more work to delete it every time it's been added by someone. I'm not hurting the page in any way and in fact it makes it more informative. DarkSuicune2000 06:17, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
Well, we are not other wiki's. So we keep it like the original. Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 06:22, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
I think the difference in this case is one of scale. We have thousands of Sim pages (as of the time of writing, 4,936 pages in the category I've linked to above), far and away more characters than you'd find on most other wikis. I don't think you're hurting anything by adding that information, but that doesn't mean the information necessarily needs to be there. As I said before, I think we can't get into the mindset that we must definitively state whether something is or is not the case all the time; usually it's well-implied that if information is missing, it's because that information is not known, not because we haven't added it yet.
Also, there's no harm in comparing and contrasting with how other wikis do things. To the contrary, it's actually a very useful practice for improving our wiki, and one that I employ quite often when trying to figure out solutions to problems that we come across here. It's not fair to dismiss an idea simply because it's from "other wikis." - LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 06:25, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
I personally believe that it's simply unnecessary to mention unknown parentage's in Sim articles. Unless the page is fanon, and the author of the fanon explicitly decides otherwise, then I think it's completely pointless.
Also a lot of the ideas I had for newer wikis such as my own, came from other wikis, directly or indirectly. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 06:26, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
You don't have to do it on every Sim with unknown parents though, just only when they're mentioned in a character bio or family bio. DarkSuicune2000 06:28, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
No, because that's story-telling, if they don't have another parent in their family tree, means that they only have on parent. Iqbal Alvi doesn't know anyone who is his ex-wife. So that means VJ and Miraj don't have a mother. Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 06:33, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
I think DarkSuicine might have a good point. If the storyline specifically mentions that a relative is unknown, then it might be worth mentioning that in the infobox as well. My concern is with adding that information to every single article where it's not known. But if it's relevant to the storyline for that particular Sim, then I think it would be worthy of being added. - LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 06:49, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I think that's a good point. But all the same, I think we'd need to remain specific about exactly which Sims have this information mentioned in their info-boxes and which ones shouldn't. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 20:42, August 22, 2015 (UTC)
