swearing

The ruleset for Chat is loosely based off the ruleset for IRC. Where profanity isn't allowed at all on-wiki, IRC rules are more relaxed on this, and by extension so is Chat, meaning it's allowed on those two mediums in moderation. There's, in my opinion, no point having two different rulesets for both Chat and IRC meaning any changes we make to one should count for the other.

If you want to start a formal discussion about this then you're more than welcome to so but what I said above is basically my two pence worth on this. Lost Labyrinth • (c) • (b) 15:19, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

If you have a problem with a specific user, then message an admin on their talk page, PM the user in Chat (by clicking on their name and then choosing "Private Message") and talk about it with them privately, or go on the IRC channel and talk to an administrator there. GAHSIcepick did not break any rules, so there is nothing left to "deal with." I spoke with him about swearing and he said that if he is asked politely, he will stop. I think that's all we need to do here. Again, if you feel swearing should be completely eliminated, you need to propose something formally, as Lost Labyrinth suggested.

IRC

The IRC Channel predates the chat feature by several years. Initially we had only IRC and not chat (because it didn't exist), then sometime after Wikia introduced it, it was activated here, but we never closed down the IRC Channel. Perhaps the reason Icepick has ignored you is because you've been quite rude to him recently, perhaps apologizing would be a good thing to do, Yeah Deskita said this

This isn't the place to be discussing personal issues regarding interactions with other users (nor is it a report page but that's a different issue entirely).

ILoveBeyonceForeverAndEver, the ability to block private messages from other users is a something that a user controls by their own means. As a wiki, we can't just restrict the ability for a user to do something like that. Whether or not GAHSIcepick was justified in blocking off PMs from you completely is probably a personal matter and honestly isn't any business of the community as a whole. All I can suggest is to discuss this with him amicably to find the root of the cause and to try and fix things so that everybody can just play nice.

Personal squabbles like this are honestly a waste of everybody's time. If you can't get along, don't talk to each other. Simple. Lost Labyrinth • (c) • (b) 19:09, June 16, 2013 (UTC)

I've already said I can't do anything and I also had the courtesy to guide you in what you could try to do to resolve this. My job here isn't to deal with personal matters all the time. As such I don't want to see any more commentary on this particular issue - either talk it over with him or leave it be.

Writing Rude and Offensive sentences

What would happen if a person wrote nasty, rude offensive stuff on Chat, but they were the only one on Chat at the time, and thus no one saw what they'd written. Or is there a record of things written on Chat that can be accessed by chat moderators? C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:37, May 17, 2014 (UTC)

Chat logs conversations for a short period of time; you can see this if you join Chat just after other users have said something, since it will display what was written before you arrived. Permanent data or logs of Chat are not currently kept. There was a proposal to adopt a bot in chat that would log and save all conversations that take place there, but that proposal hasn't taken off yet. Ultimately if someone entered into chat and said something inappropriate but no one was around to read it, it's unlikely that any action would be taken with that user. - LostInRiverview ^{talk ~ blog} 11:22, May 17, 2014 (UTC)
