Ty is something of a geek, and his facial appearance hints that he has Asian ancestry, mainly Japanese.

In his character description, it is said that he enjoys discussing his philosophical theories with Castor Nova, Allegra Gorey, and Jared Starchild. However, while he and Jared are best friends and roommates, he does not know either Castor or Allegra at the start of the game. He is merely on amicable terms with his other roommate, Sam Thomas.
