The Sims Wiki allows contributions in both Canon and Fanon! However, to maintain the encyclopedic quality of our articles, we enforce a strict policy against Fanon on the main namespace; Fanon must be kept on the Fanon Namespace.

What is Fanon

To determine what is Fanon, we must determine what is not Canon content. Canon is anything which is included in a game which was set by the game's creators. This includes the Sims, families and neighborhoods released with the games, or those which are official downloads from an official Sims site (Riverview is an example of this). Articles about this content must remain encyclopedic in nature, and adhere to our Manual of Style regarding canon content.

Player Stories

Although the articles about pre-created Sims, families, neighborhoods, etc. are not open to fiction, players are allowed to tell brief stories regarding them on an article's corresponding Player Stories page. These stories must follow the wiki's player stories policies, as well as other general rules.

Defining Fanon

If a user creates an article about a Sim, family, or neighborhood that they've created, that article is fanon, and any stories written about those player-created Sims, families and neighborhoods are fanon as well. Additionally, any sort of fan fiction revolving around player-created or pre-created content (other than simple stories) would be considered fanon. So if, for example, a user created a fictional television series focusing on the Sims living in a pre-designed neighborhood, that series itself and the stories in it would be fanon.

Creating new Fanon

Any registered user may create a new Fanon content. Fanon content pages must be named Fanon:<Page Name>;
