As mentioned on my user page, this is a proposal for a category system that may or may not work. This is all work in progress, of course. Anyone's invited to assist, though.

Revision 1[edit source]

So, the base cats tree:

  • Sims Games (top category; probably no articles at all)
    • The Sims
      • The Sims Base Game
      • The Sims: Livin' Large
      • The Sims: House Party
      • The Sims: Hot Date
      • The Sims: Vacation
      • The Sims: Unleashed
      • The Sims: Superstar
      • The Sims: Makin' Magic
      • The Sims Online
    • The Sims 2
      • The Sims 2 Base Game
      • The Sims 2: University
      • The Sims 2: Nightlife
      • The Sims 2: Open for Business
      • The Sims 2: Pets
      • The Sims 2: Seasons
      • The Sims 2: Bon Voyage
      • The Sims 2: Free Time
      • The Sims 2 Stuff Packs

The point of the above is to give us a base categorization system we can fit things into. So we can, for example, categorize Aspirations as being part of Category:The Sims 2 , and Cats as being part of Category: Unleashed and Category: Pets. Stuff like that.

At the same time, we already have the separate Category:Simology, which seems very useful and good to me. I'm gonna have to look around a bit more before I can think of its category tree, but it's very likely useful and worth continuing.

Any further categorizations will be taken under advisement.

Revision 2[edit source]

This second revision (of several dozen, I'm sure) tries to address some points.

I'd like to make it very clear that I'm relying on the magic of multiple categorizing, so what I recommended above is only one of several category trees. In other words...

  • Sims Wiki (this is our super-category, the mother of all categories; everything is rooted here)
    • Sims Games (this category is the root of the "games" tree as noted above; in this tree, we categorize things by the games it's in)
      • The Sims
        • The Sims Base Game
        • Livin' Large
        • (etc.; one category for each expansion pack)
      • The Sims 2
        • The Sims 2 Base Game
        • University
        • (etc.; one category for each expansion pack)
        • Stuff Packs
          • Holiday Party Pack
          • (etc.; one category for each stuff pack)
    • Simology (this category is the root of the "simology" tree; it categorizes by aspects of a sim's life)
      • Aspirations
      • Careers
      • (etc; what we already have here)
    • Sims
      • (what we already have here)
    • (more? Your input is required)

Note that this means pretty much any article (except for a select few) will probably end up in at least two categories: which game/EP it comes from, and which Simology aspect it relates to. For example, Wants falls under both The Sims 2 Base Game and Aspiration.

The few exceptions are articles about a game or EP, which fall only under that EP's category. For example, The Sims 2: University falls only under University.

We could also muddle things up a bit more by making certain simology categories also fall under a specific game's category, but that seems a bit redundant, and possibly very confuzzling.

I'm going to have a look at the currently existing categories and see if I can work up something better. What I'd especially like, though, would be an idea of what currently existing categories are considered particularly important, like the Simology category above. As it stands, I'm still a bit confused about how things go together.
