The video camera is an object introduced in The Sims 3: Generations. There are two models of video cameras for purchase, the cheaper X, Z-Cam 360 and the pricier Sonyo VideoStop Triple. A Data Disc Storage Tower may be bought to store captured videos.

Sims may watch recorded footage on their televisions (only the televisions costing §500 and up have this function). Watching videos recorded on the costlier video camera grants Sims a +20 "High Quality Video" moodlet. Inversely, watching videos recorded on the cheaper video camera gives the Sim a -10 "Poor Quality Video" moodlet. Sims may also give their home videos to other Sims as a gift.

It can be used by elders to record the old days they had, from the moment a toddler started walking to all other varieties of moments in a Sim's life. However, all Sims can use it, with the exception of babies, toddlers and children.

There is a bug where using Into the Future's HoloTV to display the videos, the screen will remain blank, and the hologram will not be displayed.
