She is likely based on the early twentieth century author Virginia Woolf, based on her social context in the '20s-themed town, the descriptions of her writing, and the fact that her "secret turmoil" is her love for another woman (as was the case with Woolf). "Supine" also sounds a lot like "lupine", which can mean "wolf".
