Basketball
Basketball hoops or courts are objects which are available in The Sims base game and in The Sims 2: FreeTime. They are also available for purchase on The Sims 3 Store.
The Sims

Sims just can't resist a little b-ball action when their fun levels are low! Even the adults and neighbors like to join in. Make your house THE fun house in the neighborhood with the SuperDoop Basketball Hoop. No assembly required.
Basketball in The Sims is played on the SuperDoop Basketball Hoop, which must be placed outside. If Unleashed is installed, Sim Central Park in Old Town has a couple of basketball goals.
While adult Sims don't gain much fun from it, and usually won't stay long, children stay around 35% longer.
The Sims 2: FreeTime

Basketball returns in The Sims 2: FreeTime with the H-O-R-S-E of course Basket Ball Hoop[n 1]. It builds Body skill, increases Sims' fitness, and builds enthusiasm for the Sports hobby. One or two Sims can play, but cannot play an actual game.
Sims will change into athletic wear when playing. If a Sim autonomously decides to shoot hoops, he or she will continue walking to the court even if the player cancels the action.[n 2]
The object includes both the goal and the court, and must be placed outdoors. There are two versions, one with a green court, and one in which the court is invisible.
Trivia
The name is a reference to the variation of basketball known as H-O-R-S-E, and the saying that "a horse is a horse, of course".
The Sims 3

Basketball returns in the store set known as Level Up, which contains a functioning basketball hoop. As in The Sims 2: Freetime, Sims will change into athletic wear when playing. If a Sim autonomously decides to shoot hoops, he or she will continue walking to the court even if the player cancels the action. There are two types of actions; practice dunking and a challenge basketball contest.
