Cheats are used for many reasons, including story making, glitch fixing, just for fun or to make a tricky situation easier. There are cheats in The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3.

In Windows and Mac OS X, cheats are also mentioned in the readme (The Sims 2, The Sims Stories and The Sims 3).

In every game so far, the Command Prompt is open by using CTRL + SHIFT + C.

Cheat Mode

To get into to cheat mode, press CTRL + SHIFT + C during game play. Once you are in cheat mode, simply type in the cheat and hit Enter. Do this every time you want to use one of the cheats. Cheats can be repeated by typing the expression ";!" after the code. Ending the code with "!" will repeat the cheat indefinitely until the player either closes the cheat box or removes the colon.

Some versions of Windows, like Vista, may require you to press CTRL + SHIFT + WINDOWS LOGO + C in order to open the cheat console.

The Sims 3 (PS3 and Xbox 360)

Pause the game and hold L1, L2, R1 & R2 (PS3) or LT, RT, RB, LB (Xbox 360)

Unlike Windows, Mac OS X and its predesessors, cheats will disable Challenges and Trophies (PS3). If the player is about to use cheats on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the player is cautioned with the following warning message:

Are you sure you want to enable cheats?

If you save your game with cheats enabled, that game will no longer be able to complete Challenges or Trophies.

If the player decides to use cheats, a prompt is displayed asking if the player wants to save

Would you like to save a cppy of your current game without cheats enabled so that you can later resume your cheats-free, Challenges-enabled progress?

Followed by an additional message:

Cheats are now enabled!

Spoot the Magic Llama is now available for free in the Miscellaneous Decor section of Buy Mode. All cheats are availible as interactions on the llama. You may place it on your home lot or use it from your inventory at any time.

If you want to resume playing without cheats, you must either load a game that does not have cheats enabled or start a new game.
