Kia was adopted by Natalya Jade from the adoption agency when she was only three years old. Loved by her mother from the moment they set eyes on each other, for a while, Kia was given much attention and was the light in Natalya’s life.
Unfortunately, a year or so before Kia’s fifth birthday, two residents of the household died, and although she was too young to understand it, she wasn’t too young to realize that everyone was sad. When she turned five a year later, she tried as hard as she could to brighten people’s spirits; jokes.
Eventually, Natalya began to withdraw away from her daughter from stress, and Kia found solace in her best friend, Alex Jade. They became inseparable, and she was overjoyed to learn that he was moving in down the street, even if it was for an awful reason: John Jade, his father, and her mother’s foster dad, was dying and needed to be in the hospital all day and night.
Kia maintained excellent grades throughout her elementary school years and made it onto the Honor Roll within the first few weeks of school.
A few weeks before Kia’s thirteenth birthday, her cousin, Nia, turned five. They still didn’t get along that well, because the age difference was so great, but Kia tried to tolerate her. She was less than happy when she was told by Natalya that she would need to share a bunk bed with the little pest; especially because Nia had demanded the top bunk! Kia was mad, but she never shared her thoughts on Nia. She didn’t want to cause any more disputes between her mom and aunts.
The birth of Parker changed the household quite a bit – suddenly, there was another crying baby waking people up at all hours of the night, and the adults’ attitudes shifted again. Tension and stress were running high, yet again.
