Nothing More Than You[edit | edit source]

It was an awkward moment for me, just standing there with Brigit looking at me expectantly. I fingered the ring, not knowing what to do. I mused for a moment, and I slipped into thought...

At this point of my story, I am reminded of a word that perfectly explained my relationship with Brigit. That word is "cleave". Cleave is a verb, which has opposite definitions. On one hand, the word means "to cut or seperate". But on the other, the word means "to stick together; to be faithful to". And our relationship could go either way.

And this word really is the perfect example of a relationship. You really need to ask somebody what they mean when they use cleave in a sentence. They could be talking about separating or getting together. And with Brigit, I had two choices:

I could break it off now, and cause no harm. Or I could commit myself to Brigit Hemlock.

And, as you can educatedly guess, I chose the latter. Because in my heart, I knew that this woman standing in front of me, who had converted me into a vampire, who had given me a purpose for living, was the only thing I wanted.

And dang, that woman knew it too.

"I have something to ask you, if you're not doing anything," I said.

"Pierce VanPyre, are you asking me out on another date?" she answered, but she knew what was coming.

"No," I said. "I'm asking you something more than that. I love you, more than anything else I have ever felt love for. And, I can honestly say, before you I didn't know what love was. I still don't have a great concept of love. So, I'm asking you to teach me, now and forever."

I knelt on the ground, and pulled the diamond-encrusted ring out of my back pocket.

"Brigit Hemlock, will you marry me?"

She smiled, and began to cry. She managed to sputter, through her tears, "Yes, Pierce, of course I'll marry you. And I'll be with you now and forever, 'till death do us part."
