Forum:Common practices
Okay, this isn't really a discussion thread, but it's wiki-related nonetheless so I figured it fits best here.
I want to compile a list of guidelines/common practices/standards for new or inexperienced users to follow. By this I mean, a list of how The Sims Wiki works, what sets us apart from other wikis in how we operate, and so on. I'm talking about the little "quirks" that are a part of TSW that might not be apparent or familiar to outsiders or newbies, and not necessarily decisions we've reached by consensus (though those are useful too). So, I'd like help in accumulating a list of these such practices. Please add some to this list if you know of some I haven't added. - LostInRiverview talk • blog • contribs 06:44, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
The list
- We always capitalize the word 'Sim', and do not use the word 'human' as a synonym for Sim. - LostInRiverview talk • blog • contribs 06:44, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
- We refer to ourselves as 'The Sims Wiki', never as 'The Sims Wikia'. The 'the' in our name is required as well. - LostInRiverview talk • blog • contribs 06:44, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
- We don't write articles about non-Sims games (except in limited cases, like SimCity (series)) - LostInRiverview talk • blog • contribs 06:44, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
- When we create templates, we keep our parameter names lower-case. - LostInRiverview talk • blog • contribs 06:44, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
- We add a colon between base game and expansion/game/stuff/compilation pack titles (like The Sims 2: Seasons) - LostInRiverview talk • blog • contribs 06:44, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
- We always edit boldly, and if we disagree with someone else's decision, we are permitted to reverse it with a valid explanation. Any further disagreements should be discussed on the talk page and reach a consensus. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 18:42, May 28, 2015 (UTC)
- We always italicize a game title, like The Sims 3: University Life. Nikel Talk – Vote! 09:54, June 3, 2015 (UTC)
