Is there life after death, or rather Death? The Sims appear to have one. Both The Sims and The Sims 2 featured ghosts, and even the upcoming The Sims 3 will feature ghosts. In The Sims 2, however, ghosts were much more complex.

The Sims 2

Poor Lillith died from a fire.

There is a different type of ghost for each type of death on the Sims 2. Each has their own color and many have special abilities. All ghosts can interact with some objects, for example making a chair float or a teddy's head spin, and all ghosts can scare living Sims - sometimes even to death. Ghosts can

  • Scare Sims
  • Float chairs (with Sims on them), other small objects and their graves
  • Turn on appliances
  • Reenact their death
  • Cause baths to fill of their own accord
  • Float upstairs and will often nod in approval if their bed is still there
  • The ghost of a Sim that died by fire can go swimming if you have a swimming pool near his/her tombstone
  • The ghost of a Sim who died by drowning will leave a puddle and sometime she/he will mop it up
  • NOTE: They can go through walls; have your sims interact with something other than nothing when you have a graveyard near ANY of your sims.

Angry Spirits

Some Sims can get pretty mad if they find their spouse happily married again.

There are lots of reasons a Sim could be angry. If a Sim died of starvation and there is no food on the lot, if a grave is destroyed, if a spouse remarries or if a non-relative moves on to the lot. Although all ghosts interact with objects and scare Sims angry ghosts do so more violently including:

  • Breaking electrical appliances
  • Threatening gestures
  • Specified haunting of one Sim

Kicking their graves also puts ghosts into a tizzy.

Keeping ghosts at bay

The easiest way to keep ghosts quiet is to move them to a cemetery. When here several anger triggers will not work, however a starving ghosts will still be unhappy if there is no fridge. Mourning a grave will keep the ghost quiet for one night and building an island around the grave site will stop them from invading the sim's homes.

Types of ghost

  • Death by fire: Sim appears red and she/he will swim at your pool/sea if you have one (sometimes)
