A hospital is a rabbit hole in The Sims 3.
If pregnant Sims don't want to give birth at home, they go there when their time comes.
This is where Sims can get a job in the Medical Career or get medical advice, for a fee.
This is one of the properties players can partner with and own in The Sims 3 and gives the biggest long-term payoff from revenue.[1]

Sunset Valley & Bridgeport

Sims may become a business partner with this hospital for 30,000§, which allows them to pick up 6,000§ of its profits every Monday at 9:00 AM.
The Sacred Spleen Memorial Hospital is probably a reference to Sacred Heart from the TV show Scrubs. It is near the Doo Peas Corporate Tower and, ironicaly, the fast food diner in Sunset Valley, while in Bridgeport it is on its own estate with a large, landscaped, front garden.
