For ages of Sims, see Life stages.

Lifespan is a setting in the options menu of The Sims 3 that determines how long a Sim's natural life will be. As always, the Sim may die a premature, unnatural Death, regardless of this setting.

  • Short: 25 Sim days
  • Medium: 50 Sim days
  • Normal: 90 Sim days
  • Long: 190 Sim days
  • Epic: 960 Sim days

A Sim may artificially lengthen their lifespan by eating Life Fruit.
Unfortunately meals made with Life Fruit, such as Life Fruit Pancakes, do not have the same rejuvenating effect.

Ambrosia, on the other hand, requires Life Fruit as an ingredient and has a different rejuvenating effect; it instead resets the remaining days to age up.

Sims can also get a birthday cake at any time to celebrate their birthday. This will grow the Sim to the next life state regardless of how many days remain.

Aging can also be turned off in the options menu to temporarily or permanently stop every Sim in town from aging.
