Market lots were introduced to The Sims 3 in the World Adventures expansion pack. As their name suggests, these lots sell items to Sims.

These lots are fully accessible and not rabbit holes. There are several kinds of market lot, and ultimately what each sells is dictated by the registers on it. The different kinds are: food, general store, relic, and bookstore. Each destination in World Adventures has its own set of markets.

There are two types of market lots: Small Market, and Large Market. The size affects the number of Sims that will visit.

Nectary lots are not market lots, they have their own category. Special Merchants are not confined to markets, they are roaming Sims.
