After Sims are engaged, they can either elope or plan a wedding. Family members' surnames are not changed after a wedding, but the player is free to change names by editing Sims in Create a Sim. If a newly wed couple doesn't already live in the same household, the household management UI will appear and prompt the player to move Sims and funds between households as they see fit. Otherwise, there will simply be a notification letting the player know they can move Sims between households.
