In The Sims, they can be placed on end tables as well as on counters or surfaces that function as counters. In The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, they must be placed on counters or surfaces that function as counters. In The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, Cooking skill points can be earned from using a microwave.
