Mixology (The Sims 3)

A mixologist at work.

Mixology is a new skill introduced in The Sims 3: Late Night. It will function somewhat similarly to Nectar Making[1]. Like bouncers, mixologists are randomly chosen at start of game and vary from day to day but they have been seen doing the same job. The mixologists have been seen around town, and most of them are homeless.

Features

  • Mix drinks at a bar.
  • Name drink creations[1]
  • Skill books will be available for reading [2][3]
  • Sims can get disoriented and possible vomit from having too many drinks[4].
  • There will be a minimum of 55 drinks (which is a mastery)[5]

Drink effects

  • Better improvement on Fun.
  • Some might cause sickness.
  • Better romantic interactions.[6]
  • Increase skill learning ability for four hours.
  • Improves mood.
  • One of a Sim's traits will be replaced with the Insane, Daredevil, or Party Animal traits. This drink effect lasts for 5 hours and will only occur if your Sim has had one of the three Crazy Drinks (see chart above).

Learning Mixology

Sims will learn how to make drinks by going to different bars or nightclubs and drinking the drinks. They will have to drink them a couple of times before they learn. They can also buy books from the bookstore in order to learn how to make new drinks.

Facts

  • At regular bars, Mixologists/Bartenders may trip and fall. But at popular, high-rated bars, Bartenders will flip and light drinks on fire.
  • Drinks are non-alcoholic (but oddly the effects of some drinks do refer to drunkness, such as the crazy drinks) and are different types of juice. Sims can become sick from drinking too much, and they may vomit.
  • Drink prices are variable, and may be affected by location and a Sim's celebrity status.
  • Despite what effects they may have, Bar Drinks are always available to Teens and Pregnant Sims.

Trivia

  • One of the drink names, Spine Reticulator, is a reference to a loading message in another Maxis game, Spore, which in turn is a reference to a popular loading message found in many Maxis games: "Reticulating Splines".
