Mixology is a skill introduced in The Sims 3: Late Night. It functions somewhat similarly to Nectar Making.[1] Like bouncers, mixologists are randomly chosen at the start of the game and vary from day to day but are usually seen doing the same job. Because homeless Sims are assigned to the job, they can be seen around town not doing any job as well.
Only Sims that have made at least 200 Mood drinks can really be considered a Master of Mood. Their Mood Drinks are stronger and of a higher quality.
Poseidon
To become a deity of the liquid world, one must mix 500 total drinks in their lifetime. Sims with this much experience will never mix a bad drink again!
Cool Creator
Cool Creators are those Mixologists who have gone above and beyond their duties and have mixed 25 unique drinks. As a result of their vast experience, their custom drinks will be high quality.
Master Mixologist
It's one thing to just mix yummy beverages, but to actually serve them to customers takes a certain kind of bravery. Master Mixologists have served 60 or more drinks to other Sims. Their familiarity with working the bar means they earn more money while Moonlighting and have a better relationship with the bar's patrons.
Professor of Drinks
A Professor of Drinks has learned at least 42 Custom drink recipes from the different bars around town! A Sim with this kind of knowledge can serve special Custom drinks!
There will be a minimum of 55 drinks (which is a mastery)[4]
Increasing a Sim's Mixology skill gives the Sim certain special interactions:

Regular Drinks
Allows the Sim to mix a basic Drink at a bar
2
Moonlight as Mixologist
Allows the Sim to earn some cash working as a Mixologist
3
Party Drinks
Allows the Sim to mix a basic Mood Drink at a bar. Party Drinks increase fun motive.
4
Skill Gain Drink
Allows the Sim to mix a skill gain mood drink. Those who drink such drink gains the "Cerebral Blast" moodlet, which presumably increases skill gains.
5
Romantic Drink
Allows the Sim to mix a Romantic Mood Drink at a bar. This drink makes romantic interactions more likely to succeed.
6
Create New Drink
Allows the Sim to make a unique drink. Higher mixology rank increases quality, and unique drinks usually are normal, although there is a chance that unique drinks have the standard mood effects such as romance, skill, etc.
7
Energy Drink
Allows the Sim to mix an Energy Mood Drink at a bar. This drink eliminates the negative moodlets from low Energy need, but doesn't increase the need itself.
8
Sorrow Annihilator
Allows the Sim to mix a Sorrow Annihilator mood drink at a bar. This drink can lessen the impact of some negative moodlets.
9
Crazy Drink
Allows the Sim to mix a Crazy Mood Drink at a bar. The Sim who drinks this tend to do things that don't really make sense.
There are a couple of drinks that can be purchased at any location. Each drink has a base value of the cost. The cost is increased or decreased by the multipliers based on the lot type. For example, Zen Zinger, which has the base price of §7 will cost §21 in a fusion lounge, while in a live show venue, it will only cost §6. Additionally, several venues have happy hour, when the price of drinks get lowered.
Most drinks are exclusive to a specific location. All drinks below are only served by mixologists in a professional bar. Regular bars only serve regular drinks.

Skill Gain Drink: Increases skill learning ability for four hours.
Crazy Drink: One of a Sim's traits could be replaced with the Insane, Daredevil, or Party Animal traits. This drink effect lasts for 5 hours and will only occur if your Sim has had Crazy Drinks. The "Going Wild!" Trait does not appear if the Sim already has one of the 3 traits, and should it expire it will result in a "Buzz Crashed" Moodlet just like a caffeine drink.
Sorrow Annihilator: Lessens the effects of certain negative moodlets.
Energy Drink: Overrides other negative energy moodlets, but doesn't increase energy need. Unlike caffeine drink, it doesn't prevent Sims from sleeping.
Sims will learn how to make drinks by going to different bars or nightclubs and drinking the drinks. Depending on their skill level, they will be able to learn the drinks from bars in one sitting or more than one glass of juice. They can also buy skill books from the bookstore to learn and improve the skill, as well as learning how to make the mood drinks.
At regular bars, Mixologists/Bartenders may trip and fall. But at popular, high-rated bars, Bartenders will flip and light drinks on fire.
Drinks are non-alcoholic (but oddly the effects of some drinks do refer to drunkness, such as the crazy drinks) and are different types of juice. Sims can become sick from drinking poor quality drinks, and they may vomit.
Drink prices can vary, and may be affected by location and a Sim's celebrity status.
Drink prices increase based on the skill level of the mixologist. If a Sim is a master of mixology and moonlights as a mixologist, prices can be up to doubled.
Despite what effects they may have, Bar Drinks are always available to Teens and pregnant Sims.
A celebrity opportunity involves a Sim ordering a specific drink from one of the bars. This results in 500 star points and 1000 simoleons.
Adding fruits into bars will automatically cause sims to use it to further bolster its quality and places a unique modifying name. Adding a life fruit will extend the lifespan of a sim just like consuming the life fruit directly, and adding two doubles its effect. Because drinks do not cause a "Stuffed" moodlet, this is a good way to bolster a sim's lifespan if Ambrosia is not available or if the sim is already at the first day of his/her life stage. Similarly, adding a flame fruit will cause the drink to flame up, and the drinker will gain the"Warm Fuzzies" moodlet similar to one created by a flame fruit in the inventory. This moodlet is different from the "Warmed" moodlet caused by certain popular drinks at a mixology bar.
One of the drink names, Spline Reticulator, is an easter egg in many Maxis games. It is regularly featured on loading screens or generating terrain going all the way back to Sim City 2000.
