Pet Trait is a feature for The Sims 3: Pets. The feature works like Sim traits, by defining a pet's personality and suiting it to the pet's reactions. Pet traits are available for all pets, horses, cats and dogs, each one having its own specific traits.

Skittish
File:Horse.png Aggressive Aggressive pets aren't inherently mean, they usually just have a bad attitude when interacting with other pets. A bad attitude that usually leads to fights that is....
  • Pet will be more likely to get into Fights with other pets.
  • Pet will always catch burglars that come onto your lot.
  • Pet will be more likely chase the mailman.
Friendly
File:Trait agilehorse.png File:Horse.png Agile Agile horses are nimble, strong and love to jump. They make awesome Show Jumping competitors but get bored if they don't stay active.
  • Horse will learn Jumping Skill considerably faster.
  • Horse gets a slight score bonus on Jumping and Cross-Country competitions.
  • Exercise motive drops at a slightly increased rate.
Hates Jumping
File:Trait bravehorse.png File:Horse.png Brave Brave horses have an extra helping of courage to help them deal with the chaos of sprinklers, fireworks, burglar alarms and other terror-inducing everyday objects.
  • Horse will be less likely to be Startled.
  • Spooked! and Panicked! moodlets will have shorter durations for the horse.
  • Horse gets along better with other Brave Sims.
Nervous
File:Trait clueless.png File:Horse.png Clueless Clueless pets tend to forget what they're doing and are easily distracted. They don't learn skills and traits too quickly, but they do get along well with Absent-Minded Sims.
  • Pet will sometimes forget what they are about to do.
  • Pet get along well with other Absent-Minded and Easily Impressed Sims as well as other Clueless Pets.

File:Trait destructive.png Destructive Whether destroying furniture or digging holes in the yard, Destructive Pets are sure to cause chaos wherever they are!
  • Pet will choose destructive acts, like digging holes or knocking over trash cans, more often.
  • Pet will prefer to scratch and chew on furniture.
Non-Destructive
File:Horse.png Fast Fast horses are the speed demons of the animal kingdom. They love to gallop and have a natural talent for racing, but they need plenty of exercise to stay satisfied.
  • Horse will learn Racing Skill considerably faster.
  • Horse gets a slight score bonus on Racing and Cross-Country competitions.
  • Exercise motive drops at a slightly increased rate.
Lazy
File:Trait friendlypet.png File:Horse.png Friendly Pets with the Friendly trait not only get along better with other pets, but they'll usually have better relationships with their Sims as well.
  • Pet will increase their relationships with Sims faster.
  • Pet will increase their relationships with other Pets faster.
  • Pet will try to hang out closer to Sims with whom they have a positive relationship.
Aggressive
File:Horse.png Genius Genius pets always thinking on their paws (or hooves). They learn skills and new traits quickly and get along well with other Genius pets and Sims.
  • Pet will learn skills at an increased rate.
  • Pet gains a larger boost when being praised or scolded.
  • Pet gets along better with other Genius Sims or Pets.

File:Trait hatesjumpinghorse.png File:Horse.png Hates Jumping Some horses prefer to keep their hooves on the ground. When a horse hates jumping, it will refuse to jump more often and do worse at Show Jumping and Cross-Country competitions. It may even take its anger out on your shiny new jump training obstacles!
  • Horse will learn the Jumping Skill considerably slower.
  • Horse gets a slight score penalty on Jumping and Cross-Country competitions.
  • Exercise motive drops at a slightly decreased rate.
Agile
File:Trait hydrophobicpet.png Hydrophobic Hydrophobic dogs have a natural aversion for anything that relates to water. When in the water, they are definitely not happy.
  • Dog will get the Hydrophobic moodlet when forced to swim.
  • Dog will never autonomously choose to swim in pools.
  • Dog will resist being forced to swim in pools.
Likes Swimming
File:Trait hunter.png Hunter Pets with the Hunter trait are excellent at stalking and catching prey.
  • Pet will gain Hunting Skill more quickly.
  • Pet will autonomously hunt things more often.

Hyper Hyper pets are super active and never like staying in one place. They are able to build energy much more quickly and have a slower energy decay.
  • Pet will likely want to run around more.
  • Interactions that build energy do so more quickly.
  • Energy motive drops at a slightly decreased rate.
Lazy
File:Trait independent.png Independent Independent pets not only prefer to be on their own, but have more fun when playing on their own rather than in big groups or other social situations.
  • Pet's social motive will decay at a slower rate.
  • Pet will autonomously socialize with other pets less often.
  • Pet is more likely to run away.
  • Pet will build Fun at a higher rate when doing solo interactions.

File:Horse.png Lazy Lazy pets just love to lie down or stay in one place as they get tired easely.
  • Pet will likely want to stay in one place.
  • Pet will get Fatigued more quickly.
  • Energy motive drops at a slightly increased rate.
Hyper, Fast
File:Trait likesswimmingpet.png Likes Swimming Contrary to popular belief, not all breeds of dogs like to swim. However, when given this trait, dogs just can't get enough satisfaction from taking a dip!
  • Dog will want to go swimming much more than other dogs.
Hydrophobic
File:Trait loyal.png Loyal "A dog is a Sim's best friend" is a saying that certainly holds true! Loyal dogs love spending time and interacting with their Sims, and even seem to learn skills faster than other dogs.
  • Dog will tend to follow around the Sims with whom they have the highest relationship.
  • Dog will learn skills more quickly
  • Dog will build relationship with family members more quickly.
  • Dog will accept social interactions with Sims more often.

File:Horse.png Neat Neat Pets are naturally clean and love to be bathed.
  • Pet will keep themselves clean throught constant grooming.
  • Pet will rarely do things that would make them dirty
Piggy
File:Horse.png Nervous Nervous horses see danger everywhere and can be startled by the most insignificant things. They tend to get along well with Neurotic Sims, who have the same problem.
  • Horse will be more likely to be Startled.
  • Horse will sometimes forget what they are about to do.
  • Horse loses more Mood from Spooked! and Panicked! moodlets.
  • Horse gets along better with other Neurotic Sims.
Brave
File:Horse.png Noisy Noisy Pets are very vocal and provide a special accompaniment when Sims are playing instruments.
  • Pet will be very vocal day or night.
  • Pet will prefer interactions that make lots of noise.
Quiet
File:Trait nondestructive.png Non-Destructive Non-Destructive Pets are very gentle, and never destroy furniture or dig holes in the yard.
  • Pet will prefer scratching posts and chew toys over furniture.
  • Pet will not choose to perform destructive actions like knocking over trash cans, or digging holes in the yard.
Destructive
File:Horse.png Obedient Obedient horses are more willing to do what a Sim wants than other horses. They'll usually go along with a Sim's wishes, even if they don't know that Sim very well.
  • Horse is reluctant to Kick Sims or Throw them off their backs.
  • Horse is more likely to accept socials.
  • Horse gets along better with other Friendly and Good Sims.
Ornery
File:Trait orneryhorse.png File:Horse.png Ornery Ornery horses are stubborn and don't deal well with Sims. They don't like to be approached by Sims they don't know - or even Sims they do know, for that matter.
  • Horse is likely to Kick Sims or Throw them off their backs.
  • Horse is more likely to reject socials.
  • Horse gets along better with other Mean and Evil Sims.
Obedient
File:Horse.png Piggy Piggy Pets are voracious eaters who don't mind munching garbage or drinking from the toilet.
  • Pet will eat noisily and will eat too much.
  • Pet will rarely clean themselves, and they do not mind being stinky and smelly.
  • Pet will often choose to do things that will make them dirty.
Neat
File:Horse.png Playful Playful pets will always want to have fun and have a happy-go-lucky attitude.
  • Pet will want to have fun all the time.
  • Pet will gain (and lose) Fun faster than other Pets.
  • Pet is not aggressive.

File:Trait proud.png Proud Proud pets think they're better than others and make their own image a top priority; they can't stand having low hygiene.
  • Pet will not autonomously socialize with younger pets.
  • Pet will cover up any of their failures with their pride.
  • Cat will try to clean themselves before they get stinky.

File:Horse.png Quiet Quiet Pets do not make much noise.
  • Pet will not make much noise.
  • Pet is less likely to join in noisy activities
Noisy
File:Trait shypet.png File:Horse.png Shy Pets with the Shy trait prefer and are the happiest when around their Sim. Being around other pets and Sims make them a bit nervous.
  • Pet will autonomously socialize with other pets less often.
  • Pet will prefer to socialize with the Sim whom they have the highest relationship with.
  • Pet will build skills more quickly when doing skill interactions with this Sim.

File:Trait skittish.png Skittish Skittish Pets have a nervous disposition and are easily startled.
  • Pet will be easely startled by everyday occurances.
  • Pet is often Nauseous from dealing with stress.
  • Pet is not the bravest of creatures.
Adventurous
File:Horse.png Untrained Untrained horses aren't accustomed to having saddles and Sims on their backs. They need to spend some time saddled and being ridden by a trusted Sim to accept any rider.
  • Horse requires more relationship to Saddle or Ride them.
  • Horse receives a price penalty if you are selling the Horse.
  • Horse cannot be borrowed by other Sims.
