Plastic Surgery is a mechanism that allows a Sim to change their facial and/or body structure. This feature appears in The Sims 2: University and The Sims 3: Pets.

The Sims 2: University

Sims who work in the Show Business career will get Dr Vu's Automated Cosmetic Surgeon, which is unlocked at level 6. This is a career reward that allows Sims to change their facial structure. When used successfully, the face-shaping controls from the Hair and Face section of CAS will appear, enabling the player to change Sim's face. However, the interface lacks an undo button, so players cannot undo their actions after choosing a face template or changing the sliders. The effect of plastic surgery cannot be undone, but there is no limit to the number of times a Sim can use the Automated Cosmetic Surgeon. Only young adults and older can use this object.

There is a chance that the machine will malfunction and change the Sim's face in random ways, causing him or her to have a twisted, distorted face. While the Sim's face cannot be untwisted, plastic surgery can be used to give him or her a normal face.

Plastic surgery is purely cosmetic, and does not affect Sims' genetics. Thus, a child from a Sim who has used the machine will carry the Sim's original genetics.

The Sims 3: Pets

Sims can get plastic surgery from the hospital. Sims can get either face surgery to change their face structure, or body surgery to change their weight, muscle mass, muscle definition, and breast size, respectively. There are 4 options for the plastic surgery:

  • Cheap facial beautification (§950)
  • Expensive facial beautification (§2,800)
  • Corrective face surgery (§2,050)
  • Cheap body modification (§1,100)
  • Expensive body modification (§3,250)
  • Corrective body surgery (§2,275)

If the Sim goes through cheap plastic surgery, there is a 40% chance that the surgery could go wrong and they will come out with a different face or body shape that the player originally intended them to have. This, however, can be fixed for an additional sum. The chance of failed plastic surgery is lowered to 10% if the player chooses the expensive plastic surgery options.

Aliens[TS3:S] cannot receive plastic surgery.
