Romantic (social type)

Romantic (Known as Act Romantic in The Urbz: Sims in the City) is a type of social interaction that has appeared in The Sims era games along with Mean and Friendly. In the era of The Sims, Romance socials can only be used by adults. As of The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, teens through elders can use Romance socials, though some may not be available to teens. In The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, all Romantic socials will change the Short-Term Context to Romantic (flirty/very alluring/extremely irresistible).

The Sims Era
One advantage of Romance socials is that they can be used to make Sims become lovers. If the relationship is at or over 70[TS][1][TSC][TSBO] or 60[TU:SITC] when the romance social ends, the relationship is changed to lover. If the relationship goes further than this, the Sims will be able to propose and get married.
The Sims 2
The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval
Romantic socials are used to build a romantic relationship. Romantic socials will only work if the Sim has 40% of the relationship or if the Sims are friends, but some traits will affect this. As in earlier games, Romantic socials are used to get a romantic relationship, and eventually marriage, between two Sims. The Flirty and Hopeless Romantic traits are useful for the Romantic socials. If the Sim is a Human, Vampire, Imaginary Friend (turned real) or a ghost and gets the "extremely irresistible" STC (Short-Term Context), the player can "Try for baby" with a Sim that is a different gender.

However, one disadvantage of using romance socials is that cheating can occur. If the cheating occurs, it can cause a Sim to lose 50 relationship points[TS][TSC][TS:BO][TU:SITC]. In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, about 100 points can be lost. In The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, it can cause the Sims to use lose some relationship when using romance socials. In The Sims 3, the Unflirty trait can decrease the effectiveness of Romance socials.
As The Sims did not sort the socials, players were unsure of what socials were Romantic. The Sims 2 and The Urbz: Sims in the City resolved this problem by categorizing the socials so players know what socials are romantic.
Romance socials are not recommended for general socialization with other Sims, Friendly and Funny socials are more useful for this.
Cheating can be prevented in The Sims 3 if the Sim has the Lifetime reward No Jealousy.
Effectiveness
The effectiveness of Romantic socials vary by game. In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, Romantic socials have no effect on Sims with a bad mood. In The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, Romantic socials usually have no effect on Sims that are below Friends although Ask if Single[TS3][TS3C] and Ask Sign[TS3:LN] will work.
