Skating rinks are recreational objects in The Sims 2: Seasons, The Sims 3: Seasons and The Sims 4: Seasons. Sims have the option of using either roller rinks or ice rinks, but they are functionally the same.

The Sims 2: Seasons

Using skating rinks builds a Sim's body skill. There are two roller rinks and two ice rinks available.

Roll-O-Rama Rink

It's time to throw on your skates and hit the Roll-O-Rama Rink. All of the coolest people will be there for all night skate parties. Everyone who is anyone will be having their birthday there. If you aren't skating, then you're walking -- which means you're slow, boring, and out of touch. You aren't hip. Return to the fold with the Roll-O-Rama Rink and reinstate your coolness.

When was the last time you dreamed of the ice caps? If you're anything like us, it was most likely your last passing thought. The Ice Cap Skating Rink was built purely to accomodate [sic] a frosty Sim's enjoyment. We took the best the ice caps had to offer, then flattened and condensed these portions into reasonably sized, skateable surfaces. The Sims 3: Seasons

Using skating rinks builds a Sim's skating secret skill, up to level 6. Roller rinks can generally be found at summer festivals, and ice rinks at winter festivals. Like in The Sims 2, there are four skating rinks for purchase.

Just in case you don't have access to a time machine, you can always step into a pair of roller skates and take a few turns around the rink while groovy music plays. It's a truly timeless pastime. And yes, greasy pizza and cold soda do taste better after roller skating!
