Spellcasters with a spell book in The Sims 4: Realm of Magic.
A spell book is a magical book that Sims[TS1MM], witches[TS2AL][TS3SN], or spellcasters[TS4ROM] can use to learn spells. In The Sims: Makin' Magic, Sims can access spell books from acquiring them from a box delivered by the Mystery Man. In The Sims 2: Apartment Life, spell books are found in a Sims inventory after becoming a witch. In The Sims 3: Store, Sims can purchase the Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells, and in The Sims 3: Supernatural, a spell book is used for the Alchemy Station used for potion purposes. In The Sims 4: Realm of Magic, a spell book can be used by spellcasters separately from a pedestal.
The Sims: Makin' Magic
The Start Here Spellbook is a spell book acquired through the box given by the Mystery Man, in the spell book Sims can learn the ingredients for many spells.
The Sims 2: Apartment Life
When a Sim becomes a witch or warlock, a Grandiose Grimoirse spell book will be added to the Sim's inventory. The book's title will contain the Sim's name and their alignment title. If the spell book gets removed, new ones can be purchased from a high witch by a witch that is either neutral or is of a compatible-alignment. The Palace of Neverending Light and the Fortress of Eternal Darkness lots also contain spell books that playable witches can claim and use. Witches and warlocks can claim abandoned or unclaimed spell books. The spell book will be of the same alignment of the witch or warlock that possesses it.
Spell books provide three interactions for allowing witches and warlocks to learn new spells: "Study the Ways of the Light", "Study the Neutral Magics", and "Study the Path of Darkness". If the warlock's or witch's alignment changes, the look of their spell book will change accordingly to the path of magic they're partaking in. Witches and warlocks can also check their abilities using a spell book, which will provide a list of the spells they know, as well as their current alignment, their skill in magic, and the reagents they can craft. Witches and warlocks can also abandon their current spell book in order to claim another one.
Sims can attempt to examine a spell book that isn't their own. When they do so, the spell book will attack the Sim that touches it.
The Sims 3
In The Sims Store, Sims can purchase the Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells which can be used to learn to cast a variety of spells. Teens through Elders can perform the following interactions: lern spells, review spells, cast spells.
In The Sims 3: Supernatural, the only spell book is the one on the Alchemy station.

Sims can learn the following spells from the book:
- Enchant- This spell can be used on Lady Ravendancer's Book o' Spells and other magic objects like Lord Vladimir's Magic Cauldron and Soothsayer's Crystal Ball. It makes those objects look like they are in use.
- Mood Elevatus- This spell can be used in a room with 2 or more people in it to increase their Mood.
- Summon Anamale- This spell can be used in a room with 2 or more people in it to give them the "Cursed" Moodlet which makes Sims involuntarily act in strange ways.
- Summon- This spell summons a random Sim from your town to you.
- Summon Acquainted- This spell summons someone with "friend" or higher relationship to you.
The Sims 4: Realm of Magic
In The Sims 4: Realm of Magic, spell books can be carried anywhere and are not tied to a pedestal.
