Line 16:
Sprinklers must be placed indoors. A sprinkler covers a 5x5 area, centered on the sprinkler. Any fire that starts under the sprinkler or within two squares of it will immediately be extinguished, but the sprinkler will leave a watery mess that must be mopped up. Nearby Sims will react to the sprinkler by running around with their hands over their heads until it stops operating. If the player cancels this action, it will be pushed back on the Sim.

Sims can pull a prank by taking out a lighter and putting it under a sprinkler, causing it to go off. On college lots, an evil mascot may do this autonomously.

While the utility panel of the sprinklers is the main object that is bought from build mode, the actual sprinklers themselves do exist, but are only visible when a fire is occurring. Utility panels can be placed indoors or outdoors, but the sprinklers require a ceiling to work. When a fire has started, all utility panels on the lot will deploy a single sprinkler on the ceiling above the fire, even if the panel is in a different room. The sprinkler will then put out the fire without leaving any puddles. Sprinklers require a smoke detector in order to activate.confirm
